A record of UFO reports from across Yorkshire and the Humber, rooted in East Yorkshire where I live, kept with their sources so you can judge each one for yourself.
A hobby site. YUFOR is a personal project run by one person in their spare time. It is not a business, a charity, a registered society or anything official. It is free to use, with no adverts, no sign-up and no paywall, and every report links back to where it came from.
Each sighting has its own page with the original account, when and where it happened, and where the report came from.
Where the reports come from
The Ministry of Defence UFO desk, 1997 to 2009, released by the National Archives
UFOCAT, the research catalogue kept by the Center for UFO Studies
The National UFO Reporting Center, where people file reports online
Local newspapers, especially the Hull Daily Mail
Northern UFO News, BUFORA and other British UFO magazines from the 1960s onwards, read in the free AFU archive
Witness accounts collected by local researchers, such as Paul Sinclair's Truth Proof
A few modern reports from the Paranormal Database, and reports sent in through this site
How we use sources
This site is a guide to the record, not a copy of it. Each case gives a short summary in our own words, a few words quoted from the original where the exact wording matters, and a link to the source so you can read it in full where it's published. Newspapers, magazines, books, videos and files belong to their original publishers and creators. We link to them, credit them and encourage you to read, watch and buy the originals.
When the same sighting appears in more than one place, it's merged into one report. Witnesses are only named if they were named in the original published report, and home addresses are never shown.
Aviation near-miss reports aren't included. Most turn out to be drones, balloons or other aircraft.
Who runs this site
I'm Pete Waddy. I was born in Hull and grew up on the Holderness coast, where I still live, so most of the places in this archive are places I know well.
Away from this site I make films, take photographs, get out into nature, teach martial arts and tinker with technology. And I've been fascinated by the unexplained for as long as I can remember.
I started YUFOR (Yorkshire UFO Research) because our local reports were scattered across old newspapers, Ministry of Defence files and long-forgotten magazines, often retold with no source at all. This is my attempt to bring them together in one place, with the evidence, so you can make up your own mind.
My YouTube videos are just a bit of fun: me watching the sky and rambling about UFOs. Nothing to take too seriously.
Support the site
YUFOR is free to use, with no adverts and no paywall. It is a hobby, run in my spare time, not a business or charity. If you've found it useful, the best thing you can do is share it, and send in anything you've seen or know about. If you'd also like to help with hosting and the odd archive fee, you can buy me a coffee. It's never expected, but always appreciated.
How ratings work
Each report is rated on the quality of its source, not on how strange the story is.
Rating
Means
A
An official record, such as an MoD or police file
B+
A newspaper report from the time, with named witnesses
B
A research catalogue that cites its sources
C
A single witness report with no independent source
D
Hearsay, folklore or an unsourced retelling
An A rating means the report is genuine and on file. It doesn't mean the object was unexplained: most MoD reports were logged but never investigated.
